Why does blind faith in a political affiliation over-rule rationality and common sense?

"That's a stupid idea because you're a tree hugging commie democrat"
"You're just an inbred republican"
Etc

Blind faith always seems to be non-rational to me, and it never makes sense.

But I also am really troubled about mixing religion with politics.
