It's kind of a matter of degrees. Many nations have a few sectors socialized, such as law enforcement, infrastructure, disaster relief, medicine, etc, but are still mostly operating in free markets. Some nations have a little more socialized, like their oil industries or agriculture. And then on the other end of the spectrum you have some nations with almost everything directly or indirectly controlled by the state, at which point you are in quite communist territory, or at least communism as it has been practiced.
