Liberals: What is one issue that conservatives prioritize that you agree with?

You do not have to agree with their solutions.

Example: I agree that government waste should be reduced and fiscal responsibility exercised. I would personally do this by creating incentives for departments to save money. Right now, the use it or lose it cut-throat budgeting we do incentivizes departments to not seek savings.

Immigration. Though I don’t view it as the single most pressing issue for the country like they do. Something clearly needs to be done, for all of our sakes, immigrants included.

Though I’m not necessarily a liberal so who knows. I seem more left on SW by virtue of demographics, but as far as politics go I’m fairly centrist.

I agree that the USA is in bad need of a major infrastructure overhaul. The GOP blocked President Obama from making it happen, by insisting that we can't afford.

Trump campaigned, partially, on infrastructure overhaul. It's something that can get bipartisan support. But, nothing happened.

@Northwest the partisan divide has gotten so bad that they obstruct each other even in places they agree upon because they can't let the other side look good.

I agree that illegal immigration needs to be dealt with. I [b]don't[/b] agree with flouting the law as it stands by giving the undocumented drivers licenses, forbidding employers to ask about legal status or restricting ICE from doing their job. I think a big part of the problem IS the businesses and industries that deliberately use illegal immigrant labor to cover their "bottom line" so that they don't have to spend the money to hire someone here legally for a living wage and possible benefits. Having said that, I [b]also[/b] don't agree with making the path to actual citizenship more difficult or targeting specific groups for whom to make things easier or more difficult based upon color, ethnicity or national origin, the way Trump wants to do.

@bijouxbroussard So make undocumented aliens have to file for citizenship before being able to get a driver's license and then targeting the businesses and employers that draw them here to begin with?

I think that makes sense. If it is more cost risky to cut corners by employing undocumented workers, then the incentive for people to come here undocumented to begin with drastically fades.

@ViciDraco Citizenship or at least [b]legal[/b] status. And yes, the employers have to be held accountable. The Mazzoli-Simpson Act was supposed to fine "scofflaw" employers, but there are too many loopholes, plus you have states like mine that won't let employers even ask that before hiring.

Other than pointless platitudes? I USED to share some conservative stances with the GOP. Not anymore, they aren't conservative anymore. It's tough having thought out opinions and aligning with such a splintered party.

@LvChris Agreed. I have no problem taking a hard look at our budget and seeing that some things need to be cut, but when you have a military that spends more than the next, what is it, 10 countries put together?

Its hard to argue then that we don't have money for education, welfare or anything else!

I believe that falls under the "treat it as any other religion" umbrella. That's precisely how we treat Christianity, for example.
