The problem for American Conservatives ...

... who support Trump? Is always having to say you are sorry.

Is the left engaging in irresponsible rhetoric? Sure, but Trump...

That's the problem with "norm-breaking". When you break them, then nobody has to pay attention to them. Which is fine, when it is just you. Not so fun when it's the people you disagree with.

Why would I apologize for what I believe in? I voted for President Trump because I believe in the policies that he represents. I'm not ashamed of them or of President Trump's actions, therefore, I have nothing to apologize for.

@FrostBorne Sorry, this post was addressed to thinking Conservatives.

You should disregard.

@WoodyAq So, because I don't agree with your premise, I suddenly am not a thinking conservative? On the contrary, it is because I do think for myself that I have nothing to apologize for. I know what I want to see happen and I voted accordingly.

@FrostBorne American conservatism has a long, honourable intellectual tradition. It has worked for years at weighing different issues, looking at them in light of history, legal tradition, and philosophical understanding to arrive a coherent worldview.

So no, you "knowing what want" and voting for it does not qualify.

@WoodyAq And how do you know that I haven't done this? Knowing what I want to see happen comes from a lifetime of living, experiences, research, history, looking at both sides of the issues to arrive at my political views.

Also, this still has nothing to do with my main point, which is that, as a conservative, I have nothing to apologize for. How does my not apologizing mean that I am not a thinking conservative?

@FrostBorne Because I don't believe there is any way you can think that Donald Trump is compatible with any reasonable reading of American conservatism.

If you believe it is, then you have misunderstood one or the other. Or you don't think about either.
