This was, and remains, the default democratic position - to this day. That's one of the funnier things about the hoopla Republicans make out of the immigration issue - in broad strokes, there is a consensus already, and the idea that democrats want to open borders is an outright fabrication.
But notice how he didn't say they were rapists and murderers. In fact, no dehumanizing or insulting language whatsoever.
He's wrong about the burden on the taxpayers, and their effect on the labor marketplace is not especially clear cut - but in a larger, rule of laws sense, I still agree with Bill.
