Serious question for anyone who is a big fan of Brett Kavanaugh, and I mean this for real, this isn't supposed to be a "gotcha".

What do you think of Kavanaugh's repeated expression that he believes the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to be unconstitutional, illegal, and in need of dismantling?

👍️ that was Liz Warren's baby wasn't it?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley Yep. It's returned over twelve billion dollars to American citizens who were defrauded by predatory financial institutions like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Citigroup. Possibly the highest moment of Warren's career so far.

BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley Seriously.

Why.

Why would you want to dismantle an organization that has returned money to people that was stolen from them by financial institutions who broke the law.
@BlueMetalChick I think that's the answer, between fraud, corporations and predators, you've pretty much encapsulated everything the administration is working to protect and nourish, even without touching in Wall Street.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@MistyCee And yet people like Horace here will defend it to their dying breath. It's like the political version of being an uncle Tom. A member of the working class who will stop at nothing to protect the elite's self-given right to rob from anyone less wealthy than they are.
@BlueMetalChick ouch. I agree with you on the administration, but I didn't realize how you're slamming @HoraceGreenley before he can even get a what about in.

Nothing personal, but I'm not going to gang up on another SW User.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@MistyCee This wouldn't be the case but we've had this conversation before. He'll bray about how he's an "originalist" and "strict follower of the Constitution" but he also loves the Patriot Act, Data Mining Program, and warrantless NSA spying, as well as indefinite detention and torture programs. And then when I've asked him how he can support those things when they're explicitly forbidden by constitutional law, he's said "Y'know the Constitution is not a death pact."

So there's a lot of previous conversations that influence how aggressive I'm being here.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@MistyCee Yeah BMC's talking from experience here. Though I think expecting any different from him, or his ilk, under any circumstances is a fool's errand.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlueMetalChick Political cover for politicians like SOX and Dodd Frank
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley Dodd-Frank also prevented Americans from being stolen from by corrupt financial predators. But you think that's a bad thing. You've said it before. Remember when you told me Glass-Stegal should have never been implemented, and that big banks should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want with your money? And if they gamble on high risk investments and lose your money, that's YOUR fault, and YOU should be held responsible instead of the bank?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlueMetalChick federal government caused these problems in the first place
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley So should it not then be the responsibility of the federal government to fix them.

It's a lucky thing you're not an elected official because your solution would be to just let the problem continue. "Oh well, there's a massive crisis that caused three separate economic depressions in the last century but y'know, what are ya gonna do lol"
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlueMetalChick The federal government should, but it won't admit it.
SW-User
@HoraceGreenley Horace, you're not making any sense. Better stick to memes.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley But when they try to, as with passing Dodd-Frank or erecting the CFPB, people like you say it needs to be stopped.

So you're telling me that you expect the federal government to take responsibility for their mistakes and fix them, but you're going to do everything you can to prevent them from implementing the solutions.

So this is like you walk into your backyard and your neighbor is doing target practice with his revolver and he accidentally shoots you. And you tell him that because he shot you, it's his job to fix the problem by treating the gunshot wound. But you're going to kick and bite at him as he's trying to disinfect and bandage the bullet hole.
@BlueMetalChick I'm sure. Horace and I rarely agree on politics, and "originalism" is one of my pet peeves, but I'm going to find some popcorn and watch you work.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@SW-User I am alluding to a deeper understanding. Research what I am talking about
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@MistyCee It's one of those things that I consciously hate but subconsciously love. Arguing is to me what cocaine was to my mother. She constantly talked about how much she never wanted to do coke again and yet she could never get enough of it.
SW-User
@MistyCee Originalism was about marketing. It's total horseshit as a judicial theory.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley Fuck outta here you're alluding to a "deeper understanding." The reason that I curb stomp you every time we argue is specifically BECAUSE you don't do any research, you just shit out whatever reactionary garbage happens to be freshest on your mind. Then when you get sledgehammered over the head with statistics, percentages, data, and historical facts, you start posting memes and run away.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlueMetalChick no kidding
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlueMetalChick your a legend in your own mind.
@SW-User I agree. It's just another tool for Constitutional interpretation, and like all of the them, it has its flaws.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley I'm only a legend because people like you make me that way. I mean, come on, I'm a goofy ass twenty-something punk bitch who dresses like Joan Jett and survives on raw fish and chocolate bars. I'm not exactly a force to be reckoned with. But you're so ineffectual and so weak that you make me look like a titan by comparison. This should be the easiest home run in the world for you. You should have been able to knock this one out of the park. "Hey Horace, do you think it's good that there's an institution that returns money to Americans who get scammed and defrauded by big banks?" How dumb do you have to be to actually say no to that.

@MistyCee The idea that we are forced to interpret an OFTEN INTENTIONALLY VAGUE document based on conflicting information about word usage in 1781 is beyond stupid. It would have been 1000 pages if the drafters had intended it to be stuck in time.
