he shouldn't have downplayed his drinking in the 80s. he should have said "I was a classic binge drinker and it's something I've shared with my daughters and told them how stupid it was. That it wasn't cool and you do things you regret later."

and he could have conveyed the suspicious circumstances under which the information came to light as indignant without being angry.

then he should have asked the members of the committee how they would prove to the media that they had stopped beating their spouse - paused - and said - and you've never beat your spouse.

he should have stressed that there was no credible evidence and not corroboration from witnesses.

and left it at that.

I believe there was a consipiracy against him - and it may have stemmed from him working against then-president clinton - but he should have only hinted in vague terms and let people draw their own conclusions.

But if 40years later you decide to speak and witj memory not being perfect specially over time wouldn't you speak with the people who was there and check if they rememebr what you do?
