Has the Booker charade tanked his presidential dreams?

It’s one thing to be grandstanding and actually defying rules by releasing classifying documents. It’s another to be screaming and angry and saying you are releasing classified documents and prepared to face the consequences when you know the whole time that the documents are NOT classified.

We shouldn't ignore how long the Republicans are talking to declassify documents, and what a discreditable process they are using to do it.

True with the caveat that at some point when tens of thousands of documents covering 25 years are released which few people read apparently including Booker enough is enough. More than that being requested is deliberate overkill designed to delay. @WoodyAq

@jackjjackson True, but if they were worried about delay and not being evasive they could have started a legitimate process much earlier.

There is nothing delegitimate about the process. In fact the Constitution doesn’t contemplate hearings such as there. The role of the Senate is to “advise and consent”. The republicans did nothing to delay the start of the hearing, the Dems tried to delay the start. The republicans would be happy to have a full Senate floor vote on Monday. @WoodyAq

@jackjjackson They were slow to release documents, dumping them all at once late in the process, and the documents are being vetted by a Republican lawyer, rather than a neutral party (say Library and Archives).

Basically, if you wanted the process not to be taken seriously, that's how you would go about it.

That seems to be the modus operandi of both sides. That’s how the Dems rolled with the ACA. @WoodyAq

@jackjjackson Yes. And the Republicans complained bitterly about it.

But now ...

They both do the same thing. Not saying it’s right. It’s certainly not the best for us. @WoodyAq
