You know how Trump's 'enemy of the people' talk is just, talk?
No, it isn't. Just as pizzagate inspired a nutjob, so has the enemy of the people stuff. Oh, and it was the 'corrupt' FBI who found him.
Chain’s threats against the Globe allegedly began after the paper launched a campaign to counter President Trump’s description of the news media as an “enemy of the people.” Chain allegedly made “approximately 14 threatening phone calls to the Globe between August 10 and August 22, 2018,” The Globe writes in its own report on the crime against them.
In the calls, Chain referred to the Globe as “the enemy of the people” and threatened to kill newspaper employees. The FBI’s transcript of Chain’s calls are horrifying, telling the recipients “we’re going to kill every [expletive] one of you,” mentioning “fake news,” and promising to keep up the attacks if the paper keeps attacking “the duly elected President of the United States.”
The threats are even more terrifying when read in conjunction with an affidavit revealing that Chain owns several firearms.
Chain was arrested at his home by law enforcement. He has been charged with a single count of making a threatening communication in interstate commerce and will appear in a Los Angeles courtroom before being arraigned in U.S. District Court in Boston at a later date. He faces a maximum sentence of up to five years and a fine of $250,000.
@jackjjackson You think pointing out perhaps unintended consequences of demonising the press by Trump is whining? If Obama had said at any opportunity to say the same and this was the result, would that 'whining' be justified?
Yeah i'm not really getting jack's criticism here. The president has loudly and repeatedly told his supporters that the media is fake and the actual enemy of the people.
This is a man who took that rhetoric to heart. This is a result of that propaganda. Are we just pretending that the words of a president have no consequences? Are we pretending that trump bears NO responsibility for one of the crazies taking his pseudo-fascist rhetoric to heart? @jackjjackson
@Pikachu A few weeks ago I was criticised because I said that Trump's constant demonising of the press would eventually result in a reporter being killed or injured, and mentioned the risk and what happened to the newspaper office shooting in Maryland.. I was accused of blaming Trump for that, when I was pointing out the real world effects of what can happen. Well, Trump has made it acceptable to demonise the press, and the journalists and presumably he'll be tweeting that he doesn't condone threats or attacks on them...But I doubt that.
Yeah, that's the thing. This ended as well as it could have. But that man could have gone into the globe and killed people...because trump told him that they were the enemy. That's a big deal.
