Words have meaning. Words have power.
It was not that long ago in the US that black people were owned as property. It was even less time ago that blacks weren't allowed to use the same facilities as white people. The N word is the verbal embodiment that oppressors used for the oppressed. It's a word full of hate and suffering.
Why don't you go ahead and get a swastika painted on your car hood? After all, there have been plenty of symbols of oppressive, violent regimes over time so why is it such a bad symbol?

Same reason. There is a history attached to that symbol just as there is a history attached to that word.

Maybe that word doesn't mean much to you but it carries a lot of weight to other people.

@Pikachu I don't mean call anyone a nigger, it's extremely horrible to call someone especially a stranger a racial slur with spite, but as a word in itself, not calling anyone specifically that, it would should not be put on such a high pedestal that we can't even say the name. fully in a sentence. But then where's the line? Just a few offensive words that I know of in english like cunt,dickhead,retarted, chink, white devil, you think only blacks experienced segregation and pain? I may not be the smartest to know every oppression in the world, but a word is just a word if you put value to it, and if a person doesn't want to be called something, especially if they have done nothing to deserve that name, I would respectfully not call them that if they don't want to be called it.

Where's the line? Pretty much right there at the N word, my dude. You don't have to look for it. Other racial slurs too, it's just that the n word has a more powerful history in the US.
If you're not black then most people know that word is not acceptable to use and virtually all of society recognizes that they'll catch shit for saying it in mixed company.

Um...yes. That's how this all works, my dude. Time was when the n word was considered a perfectly acceptable word to use...and now it's not because society and culture evolves. It's not an ok word to use because of the history of meaning behind it. That is just where that word sits in our culture and your insistence that this ought not to be the case changes nothing.
You can try to tell people that the swastika is just a symbol and use it freely, but it's still going to represent the horrifying murders of millions of men, women and children.
You said you don't know why the n word should be considered bad. It's considered bad because it represents a time of subjugation, enslavement, rape and violence.
The history does not disappear because we're removed by a few generations.
The fact that there are other bad words or even bad words that are maybe less restricted has no bearing on the use of the n word.

And no, i don't use either of those words either and i consider them or other racial slurs to be in the same category as the n word.
