@Northwest Yeah, my view is arguably too idealist for these desperate times. We're moving ever farther from the Jeffersonian ideal of an educated, responsible, self-ruling people.

@MissPriscillaPrim From my perspective, it's not about idealism. For instance, if you look at my profile, I state that anyone is free to participate in any thread I start, as long as they respect a set of simple rules: remain on topic, and do not insult people.

These rules are not to suppress free speech, but to insure good conversation flow. Otherwise, things go awry pretty fast, and the original topic (modulo natural branches), will descend into a mud fight. What's the point of a conversation in that case?

Well, at least I don't think I'm suppressing free speech.

@Northwest It seems some people (not me) are here only to sling mud. Well... some, like hippyjoe, sometimes compel me to grab a handful of the stuff.
