Sure is funny how they prevent minorities from voting though.

@CountScrofula You're just talking out your ass because you wouldn't know if they did or not since IDs are not required. But we do kow that minorities have to have a ID to do the following:

*cash a check
*have a bank account in which to deposit a check

That covers everything. Sorry, voter ID laws woould't place a hardship on anyone.

@CountScrofula How so? Minorities don't have IDs or are allowed to have them?

@MethDozer When you're poor (which minorities are disproportionately) getting an ID that's up to date is really burdensome for a bunch of different reasons. It's why in Canada there's multiple ways to prove your identification. The point is to make voting easy to push higher turnouts.

The US has a history of pushing reasonable-sounding hoops to jump through to vote, but have the effect of suppressing black vote. There was a lot of this post-civil rights.

Here's a press release on a survey of Wisconsin's voter ID law and how the suppression worked.

@CountScrofula That's why we need a standardized system.

Trust me, I know how hard it is to get an ID if you let your shit lapse in states like NY, but it isn't any easier or harder based on skin color or income.

We have no I national ID requirement like most countries, but we get flack for the mere suggestion of it. Nor is suppression unique here. There has been a history of it in Canada too. Everywhere really. As stated underneath in my comment to OP. There needs to an issued ID for voting specifically that is free and lifetime or it is a problem . Or like you say it is the re multiple ways to positively verify citizenship. It is not unreasonable or unwarrented.

The interesting facts are that in multiple locations the legislatures have offered to not only pay for anyone's ID but to pick them up and take them to get the ID and then take them home. The dumbos are always against that and the reason is because illegal aliens and felons DO vote.

@MethDozer Sure. If the IDs are free and easy to access then I have way less of an issue. The concept of a voter ID doesn't have to be racist. But when voter fraud really isn't much of a problem, I wonder what problem we're solving.

To go back to OP's statement - voter IDs don't have to be racist. But they tend to be suggested by politicians who have a vested interest in preventing certain demographics from voting.

@CountScrofula All politicians have a vested interest in preventing certain demographics from voting. None of them should ever be trusted or to feel secure.
