Anyone else have the impression people are complaining about Kavanaugh not because he is a good or bad judge

But because President Trump nominated him?

I'm sure, to reach the level in his life he has, that Kavanaugh is a fine judge. But he's an extremely conservative one. A judge has great latitude sometimes when deciding cases and interpreting law. Particularly Constitutional law. I don't doubt he'll follow the rule of law, but he won't embody the same principles as much of the country.

And don't think for a moment this nomination was because Kavanaugh has the picture-perfect family, graduated from an Ivy League school or is possibly the very best candidate possible. This appointment has everything to do with his belief that the POTUS should be free of both civil and criminal investigation and prosecution while in office. Had he not been of that mindset, he wouldn't be in his current position as Supreme Court nominee. This is insurance for Trump (which should be a clear indication of how he really thinks the investigation is going).

This is why it's utterly baffling to me why the SCOTUS isn't mandated to be apolitical and blind to political party pressure.

@Graylight SCOTUS is independent from the executive, or party pressure. It's kind of like the tenure system - they can't be fired, so they don't have to be beholden to anyone. It provides a check on what otherwise can be a quickly changing parade of administrations and priorities.

This is how the system is supposed to work. It's inconvenient at times, but we'll get through it.
