Why are repubicans red and democrats blue ?

I've wondered this myself.

It didn't always used to be that way. If I remember correctly, it used to be flipped.

But cable news started to use those colors, so it stuck.

America is weird.

In the early days of colour television blue could often appear grey-ish but red always shone through the spectrum.
It's thought it began that way.

America started using those colors in the 1990's. It just stuck Appearantly.

Republicans are red from laughing at the democrats turning blue with rage from getting beat again.

It was often the opposite until fairly recently. TV stations would flip flop the two colors but neither had any specific meaning. They just picked at random each election.


It was in the early 2000's during a Bush election that it became standardized when big cable news station got a lot of coverage and it just stuck since then.
