@Xuan12 No they're not, they're radical conservatives are working to screw you over and deprive you of heath insurance.

@SW-User @both of you, I think you need to give deep long thought to the alternatives that are being proposed. Abolish ICE? Proponents are either not American or they are not thinking in the long term.
4meAndyou · F
@Xuan12 @Xuan, No, dear, it is the democrats who have accepted socialism as part of their party.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@4meAndyou Don't you think you're overreacting just a tiny bit to one socialist candidate winning a primary?

@Xuan12 Yes, I probably am overreacting. It just scares the crap out of me, because my country is supposed to be a democratic republic. We are supposed to be the last great experiment. Then I see so many people who are sooooo poorly educated they don't remember what the USSR was like for its' people, and they want us to head down that road. We've got GB heading that way very strongly, and I think it is giving the government too much power over our lives. I am one of those people who believe the less the federal government is involved, the better.

@4meAndyou Most socialist nations are democratic republics. I think you mean capitalist, but we're not 100% capitalist either, haven't been since Great Depression at least.
@Xuan12 hard to say we were "capitalist" before the great depression. the us government just giving industrialists land, mineral rights, and so on is one hell of a market aberration.

@Xuan12 Good quote here from the Washington Post 2015
"And the United States is therefore also a constitutional republic. Indeed, the United States might be labeled a constitutional federal representative democracy. But where one word is used, with all the oversimplification that this necessary entails, “democracy” and “republic” both work.May 13, 2015"

@CopperCicada Truthfully the history of government participation in the private economy in the US probably goes back to the 1860s or 1870s, during the Reconstruction of the South. But by the end of the Great Depression, with the institution of the Fed, the New Deal, and the mobilization of private infrastructure for a total war economy in WW2, serves as a salient denotation of the US adopting a mixed public/private economy. Granted the private sector in the US is still the larger sector.
@Xuan12 Oh. Other market aberrations. Native American genocide and slavery.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@CopperCicada True, but the natives were never really considered part of the economy to begin with, and chattel slavery is VERY laissez faire, the only slavery that would have been more so would be unrestricted slavery to any person unfortunate enough to become property.
@Xuan12 I'm just saying from a liberal free market standpoint-- all these things are market aberrations. The whole of the American economy was born out of market aberrations. An essentially infinite supply of natural resources that was basically given away. Unpaid human labor. A federal government dealing with security re Native American resistance.

Thus my endless amusement re certain specific market aberrations being taken as a sure sign of impending communism. If there's a country on the planet that is incapable of socialism or communism it's the United States. And we're red-scared not from left leaning political solutions but just socialist economic solutions. Things that a good capitalist would jump on as they would increase market efficiency and productivity.

@CopperCicada Interesting how your mind works.
@4meAndyou please don't tell me i'm a communist or a socialist or a hillary supporter.
4meAndyou · F
@CopperCicada Um...why would I do that?
