The suspect, Jarrod Warren Ramos, is currently being interrogated, so there's little information beyond:
He surrendered to authorities.
He used a "long gun" to commit the crime.
He has a connection with the local paper, whose offices he entered; he lost a defamation lawsuit filed against them in the past.
My guess is a simmering resentment or newly printed information on him caused him to retaliate.

Don't know and I hope I'm wrong but my first thought since they targeted journalist was the shooter is part of the "fake news" crowd. I read another post just now that a rise in attacks on journalists have been happening for a few years but attacks are very rare with one happening back in 2015. Still journalists have been fearing this was going to happen for awhile.

Conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos says he was joking when he told two reporters that he couldn't wait "for the vigilante squads to start gunning down journalists on sight."
He said Thursday that he texted that comment to reporters at the New York Observer and The Daily Beast essentially as a way to get them off his back, and that they were responsible for taking his comments seriously and spreading it.
In a Facebook post, he expressed no sympathy to journalists involved in Thursday's shooting. Rather, he described journalists who spread his comment about vigilante squads as "vermin."

It is a sad situation, and maybe it is an issue involving fake news, as most of it today is fake news, and we as a people do not want to be lied to. We want those in the news to do their job, and tell us the news. Not indoctrinate us.
But it is another example is a good guy with a gun, that is not afraid to use it, is better than a bad guy with a gun. And 10 good guys with guns, that are not afraid to use them, is far better than one bad guy with a gun.
If they took away the guns, only that bad guy would have one.

@carsonfry No one wants to take everyone's guns away. But it is simple math that the more guns that are out there, the more people will die from guns. Suicides and accidental shootings count for the people who are dead of maimed, and their families. More guns make us less safe overall, not safer.

That is a lot to digest in a few statements, but I understand you frustration, as I am frustrated as well.
But we are addressing two different issues, one is gun control and the other is fake news.
According to gun control, good people with guns are better than bad guys with guns, and I believe this is proven quite simply by us having a police force. Those good guys with guns deter a lot of crime and stop a lot of bad guys with guns before the bad guys use them.
Secondly, the fake news. Alex Jones is fake news. News is freely offered, and unfortunately, we have too far many that are too lazy to study the sources they listen to, they just assume them all to be correct.
There was a day then the news was mostly accurate, but not anymore today. You have to study and test those you want to believe in. Those that pass, you continue to believe in, those that fail to be truthful after a week, a month, a year, or a few years, should be treated as false.

@carsonfry You kind of put fake news and gun control in the same paragraph with your first comment so that's what I was addressing.

Another POS who was stalking women and who should have been in jail instead of roaming the streets.
patkaren1717 · 41-45, M
tired of more fake news.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@patkaren1717 Wtf are you talking about?

All I've heard so far is they have the shooter in custody. He used a shotgun. Someone, they say they don't know who, has been sending threats to the newspaper. This appears to be a targeted attack, meaning it wasn't random.

Another white male lost it with a shotgun....the usual
carsonfry · 22-25, M
5 dead, not releasing too much else yet.
Kunula · 26-30, M
What happened?
Experienced33 · M
IDK...5 dead
No news
swirlie · 31-35, F
What's up with so-called, 2nd Amendment Rights? Perhaps you should start with it's relevancy in today's semi-modern American culture.
strongbow · 46-50, M
No news cause he wasnt shooting with an AR15 "assault" rifle, liberals cant forward their anti-gun agenda when he only used a shotgun
Graylight · 51-55, F
@strongbow First, he's said to have used a long gun, not necessarily a shotgun. Secondly, there's been non-stop coverage of it since it happened. Thirdly, as late as yesterday afternoon the suspect was still being interrogated - not every detail becomes immediately available to the public at large when they want it. Maybe let's not politicise every tragedy in its first 15 seconds. A moment of grieving for those lost and those left behind might be a better road to take.
