138 comments and... How much evidence so far?

@CountScrofula One article from one person.

@Burnley123 This is actually kind of upsetting because I expected a ton of evidence that may just be questionable or prove the wrong point or whatever. Not... one article.

@CountScrofula There was one and ill read it tomorrow.
It was the point of me doing this. In my view, many don't question what they 'know' on this issue . In Britain, that immigration depresses wages and drains services are a 'common sense' assumptions believed by the majority, even though they are not actually true.
People see that their is a housing shortage and that public services are crumbling. This is true. They also see demographic changes and make a false connection, informed by a hostile tabloid press and reinforced by folk tales.
The problems are a result of government policy but that seems abstract to people, as do the academic studies which prove immigration is benefitial. I am trying to get people to engage with that though and question their beliefs. I'm not sure if it will work but all you can do is try.

@Burnley123 Yeah, you're setting the terms for the right discussion but nobody is really stepping up to it. I mean....

Study which shows that immigration negatively affects wages for lower-pay jobs. This took me around two minutes to find.
Now it was sandwiched between several other studies that give a broader, more positive view of immigration. But nobody even cherry-picked something like this. They didn't care to.

@TotalMiss Okay. I'm going to take one stab at this.
Burden of proof is on the claimant. This is a foundational principle in philosophy and law and is integrated in to all western thought.
If you make an assertion that someone disagrees with, it is your job to provide evidence. This is to prevent situations where I say something stupid like "My keyboard keeps away tigers" and tell you to find the evidence for me. It wastes your time. It is my job to prove my assertions, just as it is yours.
Burnley posted - in good faith - a request for evidence supporting a popular argument. If you can't provide evidence, I have no reason to believe you about anything. It is your job to prove that you're right. Not mine.
To prove my point, I will not ask you to spend the requisite five seconds googling burden of proof. I'll do it for you.
