War of 1812

Apparently, in a telephone conversation about the new tariffs, Trump said to Canadian PM Trudeau, “Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?” Actually, the British did in the War of 1812. We have a president making policy decisions based on a total ignorance of our history. sweet mother of God.

speaking of ignorance....The treaty of paris gave upper and lower provinces to the British in 1763 and they were under british rule until 1840 when the upper and lower provinces became the union of Canada. In 1814 when the WH was set fire it was in retaliation, at least in part, because of our destruction of port dover. So, Mr. Trump was more correct than you. Eat that. lol

@katielass ha! That is a massive reach, but no. The Canadians had nothing to do with the burning of Washington. Not even a nice try.

@Gwangi I suggest you put your head back up your ass. It's not doing you or anyone any good exposed. And my post stands up to historical scrutiny. You either weren't taught, or more likely, couldn't learn.

@katielass again, the British Army, led by a British General, burned Washington. Had Trump made that comment to British PM May, it would have been accurate, but still would have been a massive breach of diplomatic protocol. Instead, he insulted another strong ally. If nations start combing history to find reasons for revenge, whether economic or otherwise, we are going to have one big fucking mess on our hands.
