Tory Government

So I believe we have the worst ever uk government so out of all of the ministers who would you sack, not let them resgine like TM does. Full on sackings so they take the blame for their failings.

Unfortunately I don't see the Tories losing power anytime soon.

@thatscottishguy Sad, but true. Corbyn is too far to the left to be a realistic proposition for the electorate, I think, and the Liberals have a lot of catching up to do to be a realistic prospect in the near future.

I don't think he is too far left to win. Not if the Parliamentary Labour Party had been behind him and he was a skilled enough politician to take on the media. He could have engaged so many who are disenfranchised and sick of the Tory and Tory lite (New Labour) governemnts.

@fazer1k 'Conventional wisdom' says that Corbyn is too far to the left to the win and the media parrot that all of the time. In spite of that, Corbyn came within a whisker of outright winning the last election.

The liberals have a lot of catching up to do. In fact, they have been static on about 7% since the coalition days. With Cable in charge, they would as likely form a coalition with the Tories as Labour anyway.

For me, it's about policy. What the media define as being the centre ground has a centre-right bias in comparison with an actual public opinion. Miliband was seen as left wing but had policies to the right of the public on an issue by issue basis. It's a question of framing.

A lot of Corbyn's policies are popular with the public, in spite of the British establishment's efforts to de-legitimise him.

@thatscottishguy

Actually I believe a New Labour government would be far more likely to win than Corbyn's Old Labour style government. Let's not forget that Tony Blair won elections with landslide victories so his style of government clearly appealed to the electorate.

@Burnley123

Corbin did come close to winning the last election but I suspect that was largely due to a backlash from the brexit vote and people believed he would support their wish to stay in Europe.

Your point regarding a centre-right bias now being considered central is interesting. I agree totally where economic aspects are concerned but actually feel that what is considered central from a social policy point of view is actually centre-left - although brexit does now call that into question for me.

I haven't checked the link you provided yet but will do tomorrow. Thanks for that.

@fazer1k I think Brexit polarisation had some impact but also that Corbyn has popular policies. That manifesto wouldn't have happened under a different leader imo.
