It was in 2004, when I was 19.
I was planning on voting for Dick Gephardt. But he dropped out before our state's primary.
So I voted for John Edwards.
He lost the nomination.
So, in the general I voted for John Kerry.
On reflection, about a decade later, if I had my general election vote to do over again, I'd have voted for George W. Bush. Not so much for Bush's record but because Kerry was disingenuous about his own and because he turned out to be the dove his Senate record really shows he was, not the hawk he tried to pretend he was.
But my first choice for president in 2004 is still now who it was then: Dick Gephardt. He was pro-defense, pro-union and pro-FAIR trade.
By the way, I voted against Obama twice that same year. Daniel Hynes in Senate primary and for Mark Kuhnke in the general. Five times in all; in the 2008 primary and the 2008 and 2012 general. (we had no presidential primary in 2012 or it might have been six times. As a person, I like Obama and think he's a good role model. I just don't like a lot of his policies or how he 'politics'.) 馃槃
