Should rifles be allowed to have detachable magazines? Why or why not?

Do they make killing kids easier?

Does the positive value of detachable magazines on rifles outweigh their negatives?

I'm pretty sick of gun fetishists arguing about assault weapons v assault rifles, and pretending like they have a legimate point against simplistic liberal pacifists who dont know which end of a gun is which.

At this point, and it's just my opinion, but I think that "responsible gun owners" ought to have the burden of proof on the social utility of their fetish items.

I get the second amendment, but it's time that the people who want to have guns start recognizing they can't just say.. dead kids are the price to pay for liberty.

For me personally I prefer detachable for a few reasons.
1. Believe it or not safety. If I have a jam that is being difficult to clear I can remove the magazine to ensure I do not accidentally chamber another round and accidentally discharge my firearm.

2. Visually I or others can look and have a better idea if it is unloaded. The chamber still needs to be checked to ensure a rifle is unloaded because while a mag may be removed there may still be a round chambered.

3. It's also easier to clean the firearm if the magazine can be removed.

As far as assault rifle vs assault weapon, this particular post may not even be referring to semi autos. I say that because I am looking at a Remington 700 which is a bolt action rifle yet it does have a detachable magazine, I'm not saying that to split hairs just saying that to point out what some may not know.
@Scubaguy027 Thanks for explaining that to me. That makes sense.

I got a Remington 700 DM (detachable magazine model) for precisely these reasons. The magazine holds four rounds, it is not high capacity.

@MistyCee no prob. Glad I could help.

@Byron8by7 I'm looking at a 7 round mag. I like that bit of extra weight
