It is likely that Trump really has no political conscience (many of his current stances are diametrically opposed to what conservatives have harped about for decades), nothing that caused him to switch parties like the experiences of the 60s for Hillary, opposing communism like Reagan, etc.

He played the game when he could shower (no pun intended) politicians of either party with money. Then he saw an opportunity of a weak Republican field to make a grab for power.

@beckyromero Agreed. However, neither does any politician in the modern age. He's no different than any of the other politicians pretending to be horrified by his stances or rhetoric.
