President Trump made that comment about MS-13 gang members, not immigrants in general
Fernie · F
@HoraceGreenley I don't give a fek WHO he said it about!!! Considering the current environment he should not have said it at ALL! Please don't defend this POS
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@Fernie so you have no interest in the truth, only what you want to believe?
Fernie · F
I'm not interested in having yet another stupid conversation with anyone who defends this demon from hell.
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@HoraceGreenley That's his defence , and as usual it's not true.

HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@LegendofPeza I saw it live.
SassySarah · 46-50, T
@HoraceGreenley are you saying that quote is taken out of context? Because he uses the phrase "immigrants" not MS-13 gang members.
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@Fernie you realize that in order to be a member of that gang, you have to murder someone to pass initiation
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@HoraceGreenley Then you are choosing to believe what he now says rather than what you actually saw and heard at the time.
Fernie · F
@HoraceGreenley I know you think you get the point here but...you really, really don't
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@LegendofPeza sorry dude...you are going by the mainstream media
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@HoraceGreenley If Trump meant that, why didn't he say it? There's no reason to think he meant anything other than what he actually said.
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@SassySarah yes, it is out of context. He was asked about MS-13 gang members
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@HoraceGreenley I am going by what he actually said.
SassySarah · 46-50, T
@HoraceGreenley OK, but in that quote he said "immigrants". Why didn't he say "MS-13 gang members" instead
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@LegendofPeza It's an opinion piece where the author says the president didn't restrict his language to MS-13 but, and this is a big but, he also wasn't exclusively talking about anyone. It's vague and that's all anyone can say.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@SassySarah I saw it live. He was speaking about the gang members. Many people in the media are reporting his comments as referring to immigrants. That is a lie.
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@LegendofPeza right...he did not say immigrants. I saw it live
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@HoraceGreenley Why doesn't Trump make the same remark towards white supremacist groups? He specifically mentioned undocumented.

@Fernie
I'm not interested in having yet another stupid conversation with anyone who defends this demon from hell.

There's plenty of stuff to criticize Trump about.

No need to make stuff up.

It only helps those defending him by pointing to "Fake News."
beckyromero · 36-40, FVIP
@SassySarah

Trump's comments were a direct response to a comment to him by Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.

SHERIFF MIMS: Thank you. There could be an MS-13 member I know about — if they don’t reach a certain threshold, I cannot tell ICE about it.

THE PRESIDENT: We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we’re stopping a lot of them — but we’re taking people out of the country. You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals.

Trump most certainly has an anti-immigrant agenda. But I would think reasonable people could agree that the "animals" comment was in reference to MS-13 gang members.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@beckyromero Disagree - he's talking about people trying to come into the country i.e. immigrants. If he meant MS-13 members that's what he would have said.
beckyromero · 36-40, FVIP
@fazer1k
If he meant MS-13 members that's what he would have said.

When you're talking to someone, do you repeat something they just said seconds before in order to be that specific, just because you're going to cover one or two or three specific things in response? Think about that the next time you're having a conversation with someone.

That's the way Trump talks. He chops everything up, speaks in incomplete sentences. Rambles, repeats, goes back and forth.

He probably makes even conservative English teachers cringe.

It's obvious that most anti-Trumpers hate to watch or listen to him at all.

But if you did, you'd easily see the difference between how he speaks with a prepared statement and/or a teleprompter compared to how he does with a small group while interacting with them in a conversation without a scripted statement.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@beckyromero The conversation wasn't just about MS-13 therefore clarification would be necessary to avoid being misunderstood. Yes, I would try to be more careful what I said, particularly if I held the position of president. I happen to think Trump said 'people' because he was talking about immigrants in general. If he didn't mean immigrants generally he was very careless not to specify otherwise.
beckyromero · 36-40, FVIP
@fazer1k
If he didn't mean immigrants generally he was very careless

Trump? "Very careless"?

That's my point. He's like that all the time. 😄
