Scotland rejects May's EU withdrawal bill giving May a huge problem.

The Scottish branches of Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens backed the SNP's call to reject the bill based on clause 11 that proposes ways of power-sharing after Brexit that could see the Scottish Parliament lose powers. The vote is not legally binding but if May pushes on with it instead of delivering a bill Scotland agrees to then it will technically be the first time Westminster has pushed through laws against the will of Scotland. This would give the SNP a huge boost to their hopes of a second independence referendum.

It sort of seems like the scots should get another referendum on whether or not they still want to be part of the UK

@Pikachu absolutely should

Well, sure, at this point, I fear the Tories would rather get shot of Scotland and dump it on the EU - it cements them in power fairly comprehensively in England, and rids them of a financial drain (now that North Sea oil has mostly been drained & the proceeds used for England).
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@firefall Don't fear it. Hope for it.

@thatscottishguy Well, on a personal level it's no skin off my nose either way. I think it's kind of despicable of the Tories, and will be disastrous for England, but I can see it being quite beneficial to Scotland.

@firefall can't wait

Seems to be an attack on the Scottish parlement hidden in the Brexit bill

Interesting situation

Brexit is in disarray
Strong leadership is needed

For everybody I hope some compromise and preferable outcome is forthcoming

As a Northern Irish European - more power to your elbow!

This is so surprising, given the 62% Scottish vote against Brexit.
Lackwittyname · 51-55, M
Will be interesting to see how this plays out
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Makes it a bit of a mess but nothing Scotland can effectively do about it.
I mean you either apply for E:U membership as an independent nation or (and i hate to use this phrase but...)submit to the will of the union.
alan20 · M
@Picklebobble2 In NI the Anglo-Irish agreement stipulates that a border referendum should be held if there are reasonable grounds for believing majority opinion has changed. Yet Mae is reportedly refusing one on the grounds that they might lose it!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@alan20 Nobody in Ireland wants a border. It's the E:U insisting on one.

Bring it on! Why won’t you let me vote?
