Are we loving the spike in gas prices?

Thanks to our government having pulled out of the Iran deal, gas prices have spiked yet again. How is that couple of dollars you got from the tax break doing? Yah, gas prices are eating it up. 🤦

And the band plays on. OPEC Crude is about $73 per barrel today. It was about $45 when Trump was elected.

Saudi Arabia, announced today, that it's ready to up production, now that there's going to be a shortage when Iranian oil is no longer on the market. They're not going to pump more than needed to keep the price at about $75 per barrel.

This will generate enough dough, to enable the Saudis to pay for all the weapons they're buying from us, and cover the cost of the Yemen war.

You can call me a cynic, but don't call me naïve.

Oh, in the meanwhile, we, US consumers, will be paying for it, in the form of 60% higher prices at the pump. Go Tesla!

@Northwest There is a difference between being real and being a cynic - I find most of what you say to be real.

@frequentlyme Thank you.
I have a feeling gas prices are going to get a whole lot worse as well.

So give nukes to Iran and save a few bucks. My God quit finding the negative in everything.
@abe182 If they were honoring the agreement, that’s all that could’ve been asked. Now there’s no such incentive. Ironic how much we worry about other countries using nuclear weapons when so far we are the only country who has used them to kill others.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard you don't understand Iran then.
@abe182 I understand that they’re people. And like I said, even the Republicans acknowledged that they were honoring the agreement. What purpose will withdrawing serve ? Do you want to go to war with them ? Do you see any positive outcome from that ? Trump may need a distraction from all the scandals he’s involved in. But I don’t see it helping the rest of us.

Yikes, I’d not noticed. ...should’ve filled up last night.

@smileylovesgaming That is certainly an option for some, but not for the majority. It also does not address higher prices at stores because transportation costs go up, higher airline tickets because fuel prices go up, and on and on.
Eh. Life could be worse
Niburu · 56-60, M
I didn't find $2.55 per gallon all that expensive
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Niburu My long term memory is just fine... in 1964 I paid .23 cents per gallon, and it has been as high, depending upon where I lived at that time, as $5.00 per gallon. Neither has a single thing to do with what I said, not one single thing.
Niburu · 56-60, M
@frequentlyme really because I thought we were bitching about fuel prices and how that effects everyone - so it's all connected

except for the initial bit where you groused about the tax breaks, that really has nothing to do with fuel prices

who you should be annoyed at is the people in the futures market being nervous nellies
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Niburu Oh I get it, it's all the folks in the futures market. Thanks, I thought it was some idiot in the White House making dumb moves. My bad.

Trump is destroying America.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard the Iranian people secretly love America. The government doesn't. You really need to study up on Iran and not be so nearsighted and hateful of the president.
@abe182 How is it hateful to speak the truth ? I see Trump very clearly; he acts from a place of ego and emotion, not to mention his many biases and prejudices. You didn’t answer my question, which is based solely upon facts: what do you think Trump’s withdrawal will accomplish ?
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard Correct. Not to mention that the Iranian government, like the US government is not a monolith. The President’s decision has empowered the mullahs. Extremists feed off each other. That’s a truism going back to the Cold War (see the Cuban Missile Crisis)

“Nearsighted and hateful”?? Laughable
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@abe182 The Iranian people don't love America anymore than they love any country. What they dislike is poverty, extreme poverty and the death grip their government has over them. What the nuclear deal did do was give some of the moderates a chance to voice their opinions, and indeed gain power. The likely outcome in Iran after this, unless the other signatories can keep the deal together, is that the moderates will lose face and be tossed out, which will bring the radicals back, which will bring on full scale nuclear production, which may at some point lead to war. There was zero to gain with pulling out of this deal - zero. It was a campaign promise made to stupid people, people who fear and hate anything not them. This whole thing is Trump keeping a dumb campaign promise - it is purely political, and dumb as hell.

Expect the cost of living to increase, as well. Eggs are damn expensive now, too, but that's 'cause South Korea had some disease break out and are ordering a lot of American eggs.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Gas across the river is 40 cents cheaper for me, but last week it costed as much as this side of the river. I don't want to look now.
Pdxman · 70-79, M
