Why ask Mike Pompeo about his stand on gay marriage, or abortion?

He's trying to get the job as Secretary of state, not in human resources.

Well, among the Secretary of State's duties is:
Provides information to American citizens regarding the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian conditions in foreign countries.
His own opinions could very well prove relevant.

@bijouxbroussard If his job is to provide information to Americans, then his beliefs on those things should not matter.

@GunSmoke9 Of course it does. People present to the world through the filters of their ideologies and beliefs. How can the Secretary of State represent the nation if he doesn't accept its population?
@GunSmoke9 It might affect how he presented it, especially if he agrees with countries where gays fear for their lives or where women do not have access to safe abortions.

@Graylight There is also a large segment that does not believe in gay marriage or abortion.
@GunSmoke9 But the laws of our land support it. And the Secretary of State represents our country.

@bijouxbroussard Of course how he gets his message out is important. He could also talk about being tolerate, and not hate those who you disagree with. So the only ones who should be Secretary of state are those that support gay marriage and abortion?
@GunSmoke9 It's why asking the question is relevant.

He wouldn't be part of this administration if tolerance was his riding concern.

@bijouxbroussard Can't he also support our laws, while not believing in them?
@GunSmoke9 Would you be assuming he could, if he weren’t a Republican ?
