This is one of those common tropes that gets brought out during these discussions - but Nazis actually promoted gun own ownership among German citizens. As long as they weren't Jewish.

@MrBrownstone Conscription in time of total war, combined with execution for desertion is not terribly uncommon. Point is, in germany 1939-45, a lot more than just the military and the police were armed.

@MrBrownstone Perhaps you should. The whole Hitler as tireless defender of gun control thing is a tired trope with little basis in history. If anything he loosed up the regulations in '38 and made it easier for the common German to get guns.

I'm actually for increased regulation, licensing, etc over an outright ban anyway.

@MrBrownstone Hitler is on your side of these things. He was not a gun grabber. Nazis were pro-gun as a general rule - for some of the same reasons many of you are. Patriots defending their land and all that.

They just made exceptions for the Jews - but they took every other right away from them as well. It's not a great example of their views on gun control policy.

Jews represented less than 1% of the German population. They were fucked, guns or no guns. Things wouldn't have worked out for them regardless.
