The idea was to flood asian markets surrounding China with US dollars, and maybe even convince some of them to keep it as a reserve currency, or more of it. This way the Chinese would be pressured to continue holding US dollars as their reserve currency as well, essentially ensuring that China could take no action that severely threatens the US economy or financial system without destroying their own wealth as well. China couldn't be more pleased that the US is no longer a party to it.
