Was withdrawing from the TPP...

Completely stupid? Or just very stupid?

The goal of the treaty was to pressure China on trade. Trump wants to pressure China on trade.

Actually withdrawing from that and TTIP is the one thing I am glad Trump has done. Although I don't think he had the same reason to dislike it as me. If he even had a reason.

@thatscottishguy What's your reason? Obviously containing China isn't a priority.

It is but the terms of TPP were only really going to piss off Russia. Anyway my real problem is the power TTIP would give American businesses.
WoodyAq · M
@thatscottishguy What's the power it would give?

They could have a big impact on services in the UK. Even possibly sue our NHS. TTIP is basically the Conservative party's wet dream and a chance to privatise like mad.

@thatscottishguy Yeah, that's what they said in Canada when we signed C-US FTA 30 years ago.

If it didn't happen with the US, it's not going to happen with Vietnam.

I would rather not take the risk
WoodyAq · M
@thatscottishguy The risk of Vietnam taking over the NHS is vanishingly small.

Not what I was talking about.
WoodyAq · M
@thatscottishguy What were you talking about?
