"European colonisers brought diseases to the Americas which contributed to the Native American genocide!"

But point out that immigration to Europe brings diseases and you're a racist.

Which rare and fatal diseases are these?

And the same is true of tourism and travel in general. (In the 16th century, disease preceded colonization.)

So are you going after tourism as well, (outward as well as inward), or just picking on immigrants?

@WoodyAq No, I'm picking on the double standard of people that scream racist.

@WoodyAq well obviously we don’t want rich muslims to visit our countries. we might see them
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve So you are equally against tourism?

You are only calling out a double standard if you understand the original mechanism, which you apparently don't.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq Tourists have to be screened. I work with an ambulance service in Europe that has to be trained in infection prevention. To the point that we have specific stage by stage instructions on how to turn off a tap you used to where to dispose of each type of waste to how to administer a wide range of dressings, aids and medications in relation to disease infection. Though I probably don't know what I'm talking about after working in that field for 4 years as well as having a teaching role in the organisation to the point that independent companies have contacted me about training their staff. Nah i probably dont
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve Hmm. I've been a tourist, and I wasn't screened coming back ...

@WoodyAq Well yeah. We've now lapsed our checks on people coming in thanks to this ridiculous fake liberal logic of let everyone in or you're a racist.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve Or perhaps the logic of global contact with isolated populations as in colonialism is different than global contact with globalised populations, as in modern immigration or tourism.

In anycase, there isn't a compelling logical reason to single out immigrants.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq Singling out immigrants? I can't talk about every topic known to man in one post.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve No, but you can get that one post right in the details. Which you didn't in this case.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq What I was doing is pointing out the double standard. Don't tell me how I should post my own questions.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve okay. But if you want to point out a double standard, you've got to identify two situations that are similar in their details and show they are being treated differently. You've failed to do this.

But if you want to look like a rascist and/or an idiot, your way is good too, I guess.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq How does my question make me a racist? Which race am I claiming to be inferior? And no, I'm not interested in any twisted extended on the spot definition of racism.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve It's just odd that you are singling out immigration in this context, because they are far from being the only source of the global spread of disease in a globalized world. One wonders why.

A lot of people who do the same thing are explicitly thinking about immigrants from Haiti and Africa and not, say, Norway.

But, in your defense, it could just be that you are ignorant rather than rascist.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq Probably something to do with the fact that something involving immigration comes up in the news every other day.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve True. Sometimes for good reason, but frequently for the wrong reasons. I'm guessing you don't want to be associated with the wrong reason.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq I couldn't care less what some moron wants to attribute to me, that's their problem. I'm interested in facts and that's it.
WoodyAq · M
@pianoplayingsteve okay. But you have the facts wrong...
