"Gateway drugs" aren't recognized by the addiction and mental health profession, by and large. Everyone starts with something, and it's likely to be a drug that produces a lesser effect. Marijuana doesn't "cause" anyone to go on to other drugs, and most people who use it don't. If anything [i]were[/i] a gateway drug, it's alcohol, but God forbid we come down on our favorite national beverage.
