Should morality be a necessary qualification for leadership? Particularly when one holds public office?

"Trump-loving pastor stuns Joy Reid by blurting ‘morality’ is not a necessary qualification for leadership"

“We want all of our candidates to be moral, but morality is not the only qualification for leadership.” ... Pastor Mark Burns of the Harvest Praise and Worship Center in South Carolina

Well shit, if morality were a requirement, we would have to fire every politician out there!
Morals influence decision-making for socialist agendas

With capitalism, pragmatism rules

So ... in theory, tbe pastor is correct.

He's the guy who lied about his resume during the campaign.

If you are going to base your judgement of a candidate based on what they may or may not have done 30 or 40 years ago then you have made a faulty judgement. If the behaviour continues today then there is an issue.

@hippyjoe1955 So it was ok for Moore to sexually abuse children because your lord has now forgiven him ?

right now we have nothing but immoral people running things and that is NOT working out
ladycae · 100+, F
here's the problem as i see it. what is immoral? cheating on your wife, repeated marriages, child molestation, being accused of sexual harassment. if any of those are immoral than we have an immoral president. until we hold our leaders to a higher standard we will continue for it to be "ok" to be in leadership, (pres, senator, house.)in fact this imo emboldens people who do these things to sek office.
Better then no morals..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Better a paedophile than a Democrat , eh Aussie ?
@RodionRomanovitch blah blah blah ..
Shit dribbling cry baby..
Go cry to your mummy.. she might care.. 😁✌️
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I'm not crying Aussie , I'm just pointing out that you have no compunction in defending a child molester when he is the enemy of your enemy.

What was the question about again , morality ?

A program could be a good leader by using cost statistics
ladycae · 100+, F
who gets to choose the morality?
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@ladycae Those pious assholes who wrap themselves in religion because it excuses them of everything.
ladycae · 100+, F
@RodionRomanovitch but they support trump who has a history of cheating on his wife, multiple wives, sexual harassment, child molestation. the bible i read says these are all immoral. yet evangelical christians support a man who has done all these things. so at this point in time there is a moral vacuum because there is no longer any moral authority.

Funny, wasn't the whole Bill Clinton thing about "morality?"
@Graylight

no ... do not rewrite history ... Clinton was defending a case from his Governorship ... when he took advantage of these other ladies ... then lied ... in court.

THEN he had problems ... he had managed to spiral his behavior into a challenge to the Presidency.

It was the stupidest waste of time on the planet
Graylight · 51-55, F
@questionWeaver Not re-writing history, simply discussion a different period. Yes, the troubles began prior to the whole Lewinski thing. But at its foundation, the Republicans came at him with moral outrage to embolden the country's reaction against him.
@Graylight

yes ... many attempts were made to make the whole thing moral ... but polls showed people did not bite ... they did not like his behavior ... but that was insufficient ... now, the lies, that did bite deep ... likely changed the course of history ... those lies led to an expansion of southern conservatism to all non-urban parts of the US.

It resonated to the heartland and that is a voting block that now holds power ... and is unlikely to give it up for another 13 years ... or more

Whose morality, though ? Newt Gingrich has been married four times. Does that indicate immorality ?
