@Bigrobbie We have very strict handgun laws here in Canada. Guess what is the weapon of choice for the gang bangers? handguns. It would take me months if not years to legally own a handgun but I can get on on the street in about 5 minutes.

Are they robbing gun trucks? No.
Are they robbing gun stores? Perhaps, though this can't be a large number.

The guns are taken or stolen from people who purchased them and do not have them secure. So if we stop people from buying guns, we can lower the number of available guns for criminals.

@Pherick No there is such a thing as smuggling. If you go somewhere where guns are readily available and then smuggle them into your gun control zone the only people without guns are the law abiding people.

All in all, the only way to really make a difference here is to lessen the total number of guns available to anyone.

When was the last time a gang member conducted a mass shooting on innocent people?
Also, weren't many of the mass shootings in America, carried out by legally owned firearms?

@chrisCA Long story short. A family I know came from Russia as refugees. Their religion forbade them from owning weapons or fighting back. They were of German decent and thus hate by the local cassocks who would on a whim race into the village, rape a few women kill a few men then race out again. It happened to all their neighbours but it didn't happen to them. It seems the Russian raiders knew that this family didn't really follow the pacifist tenets of their religion and owned guns. When Canada enacted its new gun laws guess what that family did? They registered one weapon and buried the rest in grease filled bags. As Heinlein famously said "an armed society is a polite society. Personally despite my military training and having used rifles since I was a kid I don't own any firearms and really don't want to own any. I only wish that people would simply accept others and the other's beliefs without resorting to violence like the leftist antifa atheist who shot up the Texas church.

@Graylight The laws regarding rape and murder do not prevent rapes and murder. Good conscience, moral standards keep people from doing that. The law is basically there to punish those who did the crime and hopefully keep the person from doing it again.

@eli1601 Difficult to stop a criminal stealing one (because there are so many), but a no brainer to stop them buying one. Maybe it should be an offence for a criminal to even try to buy one.

@Pherick I agree with what you say. Maybe if you own a gun you must also own a lockable gun cabinet. Does make you think though, if an idiot comes into your house pointing a gun at you and yours is locked away, what the point?

@Bigrobbie What would you do if you had a gun and he was pointing one at you? Are you going to have a shoot off? Maybe one of you will live? Maybe not? Maybe you die and he lives?

Point being, better off just giving him whatever he wants and letting him go away. Are there cases where he is there to rape and kill your family? Maybe? Does that happen often enough to say all the other gun violence cases are OK, because of those?
