Has there ever been a specific event which changed your political views?

Yes when Nelson Mandela was freed. Everyone said and still do say he was a hero but he wasn’t .... he murderer people and imo was equally as bad as his oppressors. So yeah when I hear people saying Mandela is so wonderful and godly I say erm nope he wasn’t. Martin Luther king was cooler and a better man.

@MartinTheFirst hmm. That is one word for it.
The Sametova Revoluce, or Velvet Revolution.

It was a lesson in nonviolent revolution.

A lesson in building bridges between enemies, a lesson in friendship.

That a poet is sometimes the best person to articulate ideas, more so than a politician.

A man or woman can assume leadership without vengeance, with enough integrity to teach the world.

The importance of symbols, of literature, the arts in social transformation.

That men who are utterly flawed, finite, human can effect change.

The photo is of Vaclac Havel embracing his former adversary Alexander Dubcek upon the dissolution of the communist party in Czechoslovakia.
I started drifting right after seeing how hypocritical the left actually was. 'They' were the rude ones. 'They' were the violent ones. 'They' left as big or bigger carbon footprints and littered at rallies. 'They' are less compassionate in action. They are very compassionate with their words, but their actions don't jive. They are the ones who vandalize and commit arson. A good many left wing activists are worse about everything they scream and cry about than the people 'they' are pointing 'their' fingers at. This Hollywood thing is a perfect example. The people screaming "MISOGYNY" are more guilty of actual misogyny than the people they are screaming at. The ongoing double standard and hypocrisy is the event that made me switch sides.

9/11 taught me greatly in not trusting what authorities may say and want to do.

More than changing my views, the war in Yugoslavia and the bombings on Serbia made me realise two things.
1- NATO was (is) the bully of the world.
2- The way western media treated Serbia, making them look like the absolute evil whereas Croats and Bosniacs were heroic fighters and innocent sufferers made me see their bias and how they do not care about the truth, but try to manipulate our minds and create an opinion.

@Burnley123 wallstreet caused it and they got a pat in the back for it. both from obama and bush. things never change.

@SW-User In my view, Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are the only two American politicians who have challenged that. Obama was always a pro-establishment moderate.

@Burnley123 I really didnt put too much attention in the 2008 election. i was in 5th grade. I thought he would be different though 😭
Watergate. I was in high school as that drama played itself out.
@bijouxbroussard I was a little younger, but Watergate had the same impact on me.

When a guy who I don't care about became president of a country I don't care about. Went from having no trumps to lots of trumps
