Is Michael Wilbon just a fool or just stupid?

ESPN host Michael Wilbon compares Jerry Jones to a slave owner. Why? Because he says Jones doesn't treat his players as equals, and wants them to do has he says.

@SW-User How?

@GunSmoke9 Both commandeer a force of workers and pay them little to no pittance for their hard labor.

@SW-User Millions is not pittance. They are also free to leave anytime.

@GunSmoke9 The average player salary is only $1.9 million in the NFL this year. And many of these prisoners are not free to leave as they are under binding contracts.

@SW-User millions is not little to no pay.
ladycae · 100+, F
@GunSmoke9 not if they have a contract.

@ladycae Contract or not they are still free to leave. Might have financial penalties, but free to leave.

@ladycae Too much focus goes into the superstars....which are not the norm. Most of these players are lucky to see a million dollars a year and most are lucky to see a career that goes past 3 years. They suffer huge wear and tear on their bodies and you can find endless stories of how horrible life ends up turning out for some of them. You're looking at an average salary of $1.9 million...an average that includes the few superstars that are making $20 million or higher in a single season. Sure these guys make the choice to play but for many I assume it's the best option they had. It's not a life or profession I'd choose for myself or my loved ones.

@SW-User Prisoners? Are you serious? They can quit anytime they want, with or without a contract. 1.9 million not bad for a [ slave ] Get real.
SW-User
@GunSmoke9 Haha, of course I'm not serious. Just having fun with a bit of extreme sarcasm. But I don't see these guys as rich athletes rolling in cash like you make them out to be. You are talking of a select few. Not every NFL player sees a mega deal....most of them don't. As well as the bulk not seeing decade long careers. Average career length 3.3 years.

But to stick to the gist of your post...I do think Wilbon's comments were moronic.

@SW-User So they have a choice, and make money. Not the meaning of a slave is it?
