Does the government In america spend more on education than Defence?

Pretty sure the total numbers are 834.5 billion for defense and 983.5 billion for education. It took me a second to figure out how the left is saying weird things like we spend more on defense than education. What they do is compare federal budgets and considering Educations local and state budgets account for more than 880 billion. So yeah the federal government doesn't put a whole lot towards education but it is a fact we spend more on education in the US than defense in 2017.

Perhaps true, but still on a Federal level, there is a TON of money going to defense and very little going toward education.

@Pherick I'm talking about overall expenditure.

@SpaceAce No I understand and right if you look at the whole bundle, "we" do spend more on education. Though the Federal government spends a truckload more on defense than education.

I have no problem with a strong defense, however, I worry much of that defense money is just pork spending.

@Pherick That is a valid concern, personally I would bet more of that education spending is pork spending. Look at the salaries for school board members in detroit for example. I guess what everyone can agree on is we spend a lot of money and anyone skimming should be locked up.

@SpaceAce I do agree on that.
