What do you think of the regressive left, as Ben Shapiro likes to refer to them?

I only care for the classic liberal.

Tolerance of dangerous extreme ideas can absolutely lead to your own undoing. The question is which beliefs you need to be tolerant of.

The concept behind the regressive left is that run of the mill Muslims are going to quietly take over everything and implement sharia law and we'll all have to wear hijabs. That's idiotic nonsense.

I do think that moderates who think it's totally fine for people to march with swastikas chanting 'Jews will not replace us' are enabling an immediate threat though.
I like the classical liberal view that people should be free to express their views and live as they see fit so long as it does not infringe the equal freedom of others to the same -- roughly the version first formulated by John Stuart Mills.

The "regressive" left derives its view from a specific variation on that formula; the view derives from acceptance of the idea that we are a social species with a basic and profound need for belonging, acceptance and inclusion, and the psychological research proving that most individuals become dysfunctional to the degree that they are traumatised by continuous abuse and/or exclusion.

In some settings, the means used by "regressive" lefts to try to generate a more inclusive society -- by acting as police on language and behaviour -- actually backfires. It alienates the conservatives who don't understand the need for equal rights because they haven't experienced being the victims of alienation.

What I think it means is that the reformists need to rethink their methods for social evolution.

I see Ben Shapiro in the same light as a lot of fire and brimstone preachers, FOX News pundits and many GOP politicians. He sells fear and faux-persecution for money.

Not much, which is precisely why this classic liberal moved over to the "dark side". I rather value the first amendment.

He has such an annoying voice. Any credibility he may have is negated by his voice.
As one of those classic liberals, I've become tired of right-wingers coming up with more and more labels and ways of trying to tell people like me what we believe. Ben Shapiro is a schmuck.
