@okaybut In the US universities who receive funds from the taxpayers are OBLIGATED to protect the constitutional rights of ALL people. I noticed Ann Coulter had every intention of suing because her constitutional rights were not being protected but then she suddenly withdrew (a case she was sure to win) and has been MIA. Me thinks someone threatened her family.

About their right to book a campus venue? I admit it - totally not concerned, and never was.

Oh, I think you'll find that this is not true, at least not in the way you think. And this is why Coulter withdrew her lawsuit - it was just a ploy for attention to begin with.

Universities have a surprising amount of independence and control, with mechanisms to maintain that independence. In a very real sense, just like with BBC, etc "Government-funded" is not always the same thing as "Government-controlled" or "Government-Owned". Berkeley, for example, is privately owned land - by a California corporation (The UC Regents) that has broad independence from the government written into the state constitution. In a legal sense, it's like expecting a private entity to put on an event. They can always say no.

This is why when all of this stuff happened, some states started looking into writing new laws to cover these situations, as the old ones did not.
