Is it wrong to remove Confederate statues?

Removing these monuments and statues seems like white washing the past to me. There have even been significant calls to tear down the statue of Christopher Columbus in New York because of the way he treated natives. Forgetting your past, no matter how dark it is, is not the way to deal with issues today. What do you think?

It is a typical liberal type of thing to try and do. These people are part of history and as long as we teach our children the darker side as well as the courage of people like Co.umbus, why should we deny history?

@jennypenny I'm all for teaching the darker side of history, but how does a statue do that? A statue doesn't give you a history lesson, a statue is there to honor someone. Now why should we honor someone who was a traitor to our country and fought against us for the right to enslave black people?
@JP1119 It's a typical "racist right" thing to try and justify. These items belong in a museum, where historical artifacts are usually placed.

@jennypenny You think this is denial of history? The monuments themselves (those in question) are an act of denial of history. They were erected decades after the fact, in places that are not historically significant, as accessories to the Jim Crow laws.

As to Columbus' courage? He never set foot on American soil, and his intentions were far from noble. He was here for the explicit purpose of pillaging the land, and enslaving the original inhabitants.

@PixieCutLover
Their actually communists trying to overthrow the country. This is what happened in Rhodesia and South Africa. Constant accusations of racism, demonizing the culture then killing all the whites or driving them out then all the blacks starve , kill each other etc. Communism doesn't work.
Yes, the problem with South Africa and Rhodesia is that the whites were mistreated. You should probably look up the following (try google.com in the search box):

Nelson Mandela
Apartheid

@jennypenny Typical of conservatives to want to glorify slavers, isn't that a nice general sentence? Really makes a great generalization huh? Lets take down the statues and then remove Columbus Day, actually completely OK with both of those.

@PixieCutLover So, yes, I did read Marx. How else would I able to discuss it? That would be a pretty advanced topic for you. How about yous start with remedial English, and we can take it from there?

@PixieCutLover
Did you fap to Marx when you read it?
Is fapi'ing what you do when you read? You should have paid more attention in your senior year, or the 5th grade, in your case.

@PixieCutLover Its actually not that simple. We have TONS of American figures in our history, lets pick a bunch that weren't traitors!
