Is it wrong to remove Confederate statues?

Removing these monuments and statues seems like white washing the past to me. There have even been significant calls to tear down the statue of Christopher Columbus in New York because of the way he treated natives. Forgetting your past, no matter how dark it is, is not the way to deal with issues today. What do you think?

He treated the natives? I don't recall good ole CC having much to do with our fights with the Indians.

I forget. Was he at Little Bighorn? Wounded Knee? The Seminole Wars? Did he push the Indians to their current reservations?

Can we keep the statues IF we toss the Indians a few more casinos to make hundreds of millions from?

Stupid ass party waste liberal mother fuckers.

The Kennedys are founded from dirty money. They've even got a couple murders on their hands. Do you think they should be on our money?

@Adogslife The OP said "natives" not Indians.

@Adogslife Racist conservative motherfeckers---so why are we still celebrating Columbus ? He didnt "discover" America after all. I think we established once and for all that there were already folks here.

@Adogslife She's talking about the natives of that time period. His own journal entries talk about how easy it would be to enslave or eliminate the native populations.

@bijouxbroussard He's not only ignorant of history, his sarcasm misses by a mile.

@Adogslife You should educate yourself. Columbus took back slaves with him, and the natives he encountered, are not the same as the US Indian Nations. Columbus never set foot on US soil.

@bijouxbroussard Who are these racist conservatives you speak of? Most conservatives are not racist.
@GunSmoke9 Conservatives don't think they are, anyway. But you're the ones supporting the white supremacists and celebrating the Confederacy. Just like conservative Southern Democrats supported them in the last century.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard People like you, many on the left, the media, believe not just conservatives but all republicans are racist. Which is totally false. Not all conservatives are the same. The conservatives that I support, the principles I believe in do not support the neo Nazi, white supremacists, KKK, ect.
@GunSmoke9 Now is the time for you to speak up, like some of the moderates are doing.Trump by his actions is supporting the white supremacists. So most of what he says is too little, too late.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard Maybe you should listen to what conservatives are saying about these sicko groups. Trump is not a conservative, and what actions are you talking about?
@GunSmoke9 You haven't been paying attention if you have to ask. Trump took his time denouncing them and then he felt the need to add some mealy mouthed crap about "there are good people on both sides". Sorry, being a "good person" is incompatible with being a white supremacist, at least to me.

@GunSmoke9 Sure, the GOP leadership has denounced what Trump said, but they're only paying lip service to this issue. They should be instead taking action, to insure that the Presidency, the highest authority in the land, unifies, rather than divide us, stand for all Americans, and not equate Nazis and White Supremacists, you know, the same people our grandparents fought, with the rest of us.

Free speech notwithstanding, Nazism and White supremacy, are incompatible with being American, and armed services or not, we all repeat the same pledge of allegiance.

I realize that non Americans read and comment here, but this part of the conversation is about what we Americans, need to do, to remain true to what America is all about.

@bijouxbroussard I also didn't like the there are good people on both sides bull. He also made it clear a number of times that hate won't be tolerated from either side.
Ok Trump was late. Late is sometimes better than never. When BLM was chanting about killing cops, and cops were and still being killed where was Obama, other democrats, the media? When lefty thugs were using violence to stop conservatives from speaking where was the left?
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@Northwest What we can do is speak out against hate groups no matter what side of the aisle they stand on.
@GunSmoke9 You mean when Obama said the statue of Nat Turner needed to stay up because it was "beautiful and heroic" ? Oh wait...there was no statue of Nat Turner to keep standing. At least Obama did denounce the murder of police, without hesitation. Trump pardoned a racist profiling sheriff. That's why we know you conservatives are racists, by the way. You compare apples to oranges and make excuses for your supremacists. BLM is not leftist which you would know if you didn't lump everybody who's black and angry in one organization.
