Is it wrong to remove Confederate statues?

Removing these monuments and statues seems like white washing the past to me. There have even been significant calls to tear down the statue of Christopher Columbus in New York because of the way he treated natives. Forgetting your past, no matter how dark it is, is not the way to deal with issues today. What do you think?

It is not wrong to take them down, but it is not wrong to leave them up either. I agree with you that hiding history won't change it or make things any better.

@Fernie To me, its sort of like the ancient statues people put up of their so called gods. Or of kings and emperors. Nobody still reveres them, or at least nobody sensible does. They are reminders of another time. Alexander the Great was not what you would think of as a fine moral person. He sought power and did not much care how many people died to create his empire. Napoleon Bonaparte was cut from the same cloth. Do we need to remove all of those statues from public places?

Carting them off to museums is not necessarily wrong, but it is not important that we do so. Some people on both sides of the issue make far too much of it to my way of thinking.
