Is it wrong to remove Confederate statues?

Removing these monuments and statues seems like white washing the past to me. There have even been significant calls to tear down the statue of Christopher Columbus in New York because of the way he treated natives. Forgetting your past, no matter how dark it is, is not the way to deal with issues today. What do you think?

Its not forgetting your past. Its about not glorifying people who do not deserve it.

You are a traitor to your country and endorse slavery? Sorry, no statue for you. Tearing down Civil War statues will not make us forget the civil war.

@Pherick Neither will it erase history either!!!

@SW-User No one is trying to erase history ...

@Pherick Erasing one side is still erasing. You should learn what the civil war was about. Guess you don’t know history. And isn’t it strange the statues weren’t removed when obama was president. Sore losers if I ever saw.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@MrBrownstone Actually no. I know very very well what the Civil War was about. What do you think it was about?

Obama has nothing to do with the statues coming down, good lord what idiocy.
@Pherick BULLSHIT if the black have it sooooo bad in this country let them go and try living back in Africa

@CoxswainOtter No actually they didn't do anything great. They betrayed their Nation. I am not sure whats so complicated about this.

They were, by literal definition, traitors. When you argue they were not, YOU are the one trying to change history. Anyone calling them "heroes", doesn't know the meaning of the word and slaps REAL heroes in the face.

The vast majority of these statues were erected between 1900 and 1920, by southern groups wanting to "soften" the view of the traitorous South.

@CoxswainOtter Its actually NOT a matter of individual perspective. There are things in this world that facts, no matter how you want to spin them.

We chose as a Nation to set aside the crimes of the South and we forgave them, that doesn't mean we forgot what they did or that we should be glorifying them.

Yes actually there was a conspiracy to erect statues of people who were traitors to the Nation. Read some history, learn about who put up the statues and why. None of this hidden, its all available to read if you want to spend the time actually learning.

I focus on the fact that these people were traitors to our Nation, that they fought to protect a side that stated, time and time again, that their purpose was to preserve slavery.

No one is trying to wash history here but you and your pathetic attempt to make this about the Democrats. Learn some history, then try again.

@CoxswainOtter What are you babbling about? Yes, everyone who fought against the Union was a traitor.

Sadly you won't or can't read, learn and explore the history that is right there for you to explore.

Live in ignorance, spouting random inane theories about "democrats" and "victimization". The only one I see whining here is you.

Come back with something solid, real evidence to back up your claims or shut up. Its thats easy.

@CoxswainOtter Ah yes, the the old

"I can't debate or back up anything I say, so its time to start calling you names" ploy. Its an oldy but sadly a goody among you people.

Try again.
