The University canceled a panel discussion called “The Stifling of Free Speech on University Campuses”

Lol...amazing! And people keep asking why Trump got in??? Anything or anyone would have been voted in versus the "all knowing Big Brother" Ideological Elite.

"Without Freedom of Thought, there can be no such thing as Wisdom; and no such thing as public Liberty without Freedom of Speech"
-Benjamin Franklin, The New England Courant, Jul. 9, 1722

This kind of stuff just feeds non-dialogue violence.

Socrates would have died earlier of a broken heart if he was alive today.

People take their rights for granted. They do not comprehend that if we lose our first amendment rights, we have lost all of our rights because we won't have them long. It's that important. Some people are going to say things, awful things, that we don't like or want to hear but there is another way to deal with that rather than trying to shut them up. All you need to know is that if you succeed in shutting someone else up, someone will succeed in shutting YOU up. And if you think you have nothing to say that offends anyone, better think again. We're ALL offensive to someone.

@okaybut thanks for BA.

So cancelling an appearance, that they didn't HAVE to schedule in the first place, out of concerns of violence is an affront to "free thought?"
Same song and dance in the U.S.

ANYTHING that the extreme right wing snowflakes can latch on to so they feel persecuted is what this is all about.

TOLERATE MY INTOLERANCE!!!

If anyone thinks the poor, persecuted white radicals REALLY give a fuck about 'dialogue' they're clearly complicit with the message.

Fuck that. Don't give these gutless wonders a platform and they''ll be like roaches when the lights come on. Universities aren't REQUIRED to have speakers. Let the torch holders establish their own colleges and they can do whatever the hell they want.

@okaybut What he is saying is exactly what I was referring to when I said some people, with good intentions, are being manipulated. there are those who WANT to do away with free speech and they are using people like him to accomplish it. As I said before, who wants to hear racist speech? No decent person does but we tolerate it because when we shut them down we also shut ourselves down. Ask anyone who has lived in a fascist or totalitarian state. they'll tell you. The arbitor of speech today might be someone you agree with but next week, next month, next year, it very well might be someone you don't agree with. Smart people can see this.

@katielass Yes...kind of sad. He could call us Trolls, but we have to fight for his right to. 🤤 I did find him open to discussion (he does not like the notion of "dialogue"), which I am grateful for with the interaction.

@okaybut I've had run ins with him in the past. We've blocked each other. But it wasn't hard to know exactly what he was saying from just reading our response. Well, as i said, if it were just his rights, i wouldn't bother. i'd say go, screw yourself, you'll find out. But it's not just him, or just the leftists whose minds are being manipulated. this affects all of us and like you said, it's worth dying for.

They said they cant guarantee the safety of the attendees..

Free speach is EVERYONE'S right..
You dont have to like it and committing acts of violence or intimidation to deny those rights are WRONG! period!

@SW-User I am especially concerned when it is a University. They are supposed to be the seat of reason, not the seat of emotions (leave that for Art Schools).

I agree, a university should encourage free and open debate on all issues, social, academic and philosophical..

We know that in 2017 free speech means ' you are free to say whatever you want, as long as I agree with it', and hate speech means 'speech I hate'.
