It wouldn't bother me. They are just statues.

How would you feel if your ancestors were kept as slaves?

I follow you and I don't disagree but what happened in Africa didn't happen in America. (I mean let's talk about America right now. ) We are talking about the history of America. That's what matters. Black people did not have any rights and were not thought of as human. Whatever you say it won't ever justify that. @imLobo

He lead the confederates and it is documented as such. Of course he would talked about in history books. He owned slaves. @imLobo

I don't feel guilty for being white. My ancestors aren't even southern. My great grandparents came to California from Texas when my grandfather was a little boy. @imLobo

They weren't put up until after he died and I'm not sure in what way is "the lost cause icon" important. @imLobo

Why are you insulting me? I would really like to know, I mean you've spammed me with his education birthplace and relatives and I couldn't get through it all. I am actually cooking dinner. 🙂@imLobo

Half of your very long post is pointless and won't do me a bit of good. That's why I asked you if you could please summarize it... the reason you think the statue should stay. I am not too lazy to read a post that actually pertains to this thread. I don't know if the statue should be removed. All I know is it makes someone unhappy enough to point out that he was a slave owner and by the way not a very nice one. Maybe he was upstanding after the war and blended and maybe even adjusted his beliefs. I was just asking you what does it stand for, the statue. What does the statue stand for because he lead the confederate army and everyone knows the confederacy was not opposed to slavery like the north was. The civil war was fought for many purposes. I think we all know that too. They were going to pull away and Abe Lincoln was threatened by the idea so he was not 100 percent noble either. @Spoiledbrat
