Destroy all the slave owners statues?

Maybe we should tear down all the statues and destroy the monuments to former slave holders, like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ulysses S. Grant.
Will that make everyone happy and less triggered?

I still never understood why they have to be removed in the first place it's like they are trying to hide the past they need to be re purposed to educate about the wrongs that they represent. The placards need to read i was a scum bag i did horrible things let me serve as an example as to what not to do or be

@metalicblack no one is hiding the past. It is more like..why would we pretend these people were all lovely and honorable in the first place. The past has always been a lie. It was not pretty and lovely and fun. America's past like any other country is filled with bad things we did ...

The placards do not read like that. They read like a fairytale. "Our heroes" ...they were just as complicit as the rest ..we dont need to build monuments to them. Never did need to.

Then you did not read my point.
I said that they need to be re purposed to educate about the horrible person that they were. They are a part of our history and by removing them we are hiding that chapter of our history from view that is what i am saying so re read what i wrote .

@metalicblack find a statue of Hitler or his generals in Germany and the discussion will be over.,.we can learn a great deal.. without being reminded of the moral ambivalence of a country...who leveraged everything off the backs of slaves, indentured servants and every subsequent group of imigrants who arrived.

While they did not leave statues or monuments to Hitler up they did not wipe out every last trace of what happened. Numerous Nazi structures are still there, Auschwitz still stands as a reminder to all.

@Niburu no swastika remains...and a couple of Americans recently thought it would be cool to do a heil Hitler on the street... they got pummeled ..

Architecture can be repurposed ...

Battlefields can be studied and preserved..

People who fought to preserve
An oppressive economic system

Do not need to be venerated.
