Okay, who in their right would actually want to defund the police? Come on now.
I mean, can you imagine the hell that would break loose if the LAPD, NYPD, or Chicago police were defunded?

Let's not forget the shooting of 2 unarmed homeless people the Cleveland cops shot 137x, yes I said 137x through their windshield. Punishment was minimal for all of the cops involved, including higher ups. You think I'd want to give them a raise? They should all have been relieved of their "duties" except we'd have no police until new ones were trained, & I wouldn't trust a bunch of rookies as far as I could throw an elephant by the tail. That was a REAL fuckup!

@DropTopDig I think police need to be reminded that they are not above the law, with much harsher consequences for heinous actions like shooting an unarmed suspect. I grew up in Chicago where the police get away with all sorts of shit and only face little consequences.

@SatanBurger You don't want me as a cop. I'd end up shooting everybody I stopped, even minor traffic violations. I have NO tolerance for people's attitudes, I live in a sh*tty neighborhood, how do I know arrested person isn't going to shoot me or try to run me over? I'd be kicked off the force within a week. I NEVER said defund the police, but make them more accountable for their actions.

I hear AOC wants to abolish prisons and that's just outrageous. I'm way more liberal than people think in that regard but abolishing anything is just an extreme action that will result in consequences. Like AOC and all other politicians have the money in case things go wrong to flee, us Americans don't so that's fvcked right there.
I support rehabilitation prisons but not just any form of rehabilitation, one that mirrors a prison in Europe.
I support that but I don't support just abolishing anything, I don't know why people have to go to such extremes and then pretend like it's a solution.

I always thought that "defund" was an emotional--rather than rational--response. Of course we want to punish people who do bad things...(I think)...but reform is better than the alternative.

@ViciDraco The problem with that is what if you have a patient who has a mental illness but could potentially be dangerous? Let's say someone calls 911 and they need help "now" how would the dispatch operators determine which "group" needs to handle the case than not when there's likely no time to assess the situation in the first place. I think that's why cops answer calls like that.
So I think the whole "different authorities for different situations" is mostly a flawed idea, crime is crime and you need specialized education for that, not just "any" group.

@SatanBurger many nations have an unarmed police that handles most situations and a separate special armed police that are used much more sparingly.
