The Cross

Shattered heart of broken glass,
I drove through flowing tears.
To find a quiet darkened place.
To silence the loudest years.

Fuel of fire and resolute mind,
I found a grove of trees.
A broken man alone and dark.
In tears and on his knees.

The fog that night filled the low,
Clouding a broken soul.
The pain that soon would leave my heart,
Tonight on a quiet knoll.

I cleared my mind with surprising calm,
I smiled and held my breath.
Expecting hence to meet the dark.
That thus would mark my death.

Pressure close, my last glance up,
I saw a blinding light.
That stole the dark with golden love.
And turned away the night.

Rapture here upon this Earth,
I would never have thought could be.
The purest form of loving light.
Reserved for only me.

Thus my life began that eve,
Among the old oak trees.
The night a broken selfish man.
Rose up from soggy knees.

So beautiful, Patrick. I can relate; I experienced the dark night of the soul, too. It's so so dark, and yet it's a beautiful experience. Thank you for sharing.🙂
