Sunshine poem

You're here
Like the time you touched my face and promised you always would be
My biggest fear
That hand will disappear
And you'll be gone
Like sunshine in the dark
Swallowed in the night
The dark falls and consumes It convinces it grooms
It takes you away and I'm left
With the echoes of words you used to say But I know the heart
Underneath the pain it has hope
and so do I
That one day the dark will leave the sky I see your sunshine through the dark It's stark it warms me still I know you're there
Somewhere Today tomorrow forever

The imagery here is so powerful. 😃
The contrast between the sunshine and the consuming dark is classic, but you make it feel completely new and raw. "Swallowed in the night" and "left with the echoes of words" are lines that will stick with me. It's a poem that feels like a warm hand in a cold room.
