I liked L for that reason. He wasn't pursuing Kira for any other reason than the fact that he likes to solve puzzles. He's an example of a true psychopath, but the writers avoided the temptation of making him the villain.

Just don't get me started on the last season after Light killed him. As far as I'm concerned, the N episodes didn't happen.

@LordShadowfire Yeah I'd probably pursue someone not cos I care about their crimes, but because there's nothing better than a mystery.

I actually liked how the writers avoided the villain part, partly because not all psychopaths are like the horror movies so it is kind of refreshing how they didn't go the stereotypical route.
