Bruises stay
The shadows cast an eerie glow,
Upon a heart now cloaked in woe,
through whispered vows a love did play,
But unlike you, the bruises stay.
In dreams we danced, a tender game,
Yet now, alone, I bear the blame.
Each tear that falls, a silent fray,
But unlike you, the bruises stay.
Thorned memories they poke and prick,
Each reminicence a painful kick.
That echoes of your loves decay,
But unlike you, the bruises stay.
Now beaten, broken, torn apart,
Left with remnants of a shattered heart.
In darkness now, I find my way,
But unlike you, the bruises stay,
Bruised and abused,
A trust betrayed,
Feelings numb,
and hope is frayed,
Drowning in sorrow,
As tears cascade,
Bruises of gold,
And pains of suede,
Nothing was real,
Just a masquerade,
Yet when they fade,
To a fool I'll return,
Older not wiser,
No lesson learned,
Sometimes I wish it were harsher,
To keep me from that ignorant splendor,
Because unlike bruises scars remember.
Upon a heart now cloaked in woe,
through whispered vows a love did play,
But unlike you, the bruises stay.
In dreams we danced, a tender game,
Yet now, alone, I bear the blame.
Each tear that falls, a silent fray,
